Community Guidelines & User Content Policy

Last updated: April 7, 2026

CampScout works because campers share honest, firsthand experiences. These guidelines exist to keep the platform useful, trustworthy, and welcoming for everyone. They apply to all reviews, photos, condition reports, and any other content you submit.

1. Write Honest, Firsthand Reviews

Reviews should be based on your own direct experience at the campsite. We ask that you:

  • Only review sites you have personally visited or stayed at
  • Be accurate — don’t exaggerate positives or negatives
  • Focus on the specific site rather than the campground or park in general
  • Note the time of year you visited, as conditions can vary significantly by season

Reviews that appear to be fabricated, incentivized, or submitted without genuine firsthand experience will be removed.

2. Keep It Relevant

CampScout reviews are about individual campsites — the physical space, not booking systems, rangers, or unrelated issues. Relevant content includes:

  • Site size, shade, level ground, privacy, and views
  • Access road conditions and parking
  • Proximity to amenities (bathrooms, water, fire rings)
  • Wildlife, noise, and environmental conditions
  • Anything else that would genuinely help the next camper decide

Complaints about reservation fees, park policies, or booking websites are off-topic and may be removed.

3. Be Respectful

Disagree with another reviewer? That’s fine — leave your own review. Do not:

  • Attack, demean, or harass other users
  • Use hate speech, slurs, or discriminatory language
  • Make personal threats of any kind

Disrespectful content will be removed and repeated violations may result in account suspension.

4. Photos

Photos help future campers enormously. When sharing photos:

  • Only upload photos you took yourself or have rights to share
  • Photos should show the actual campsite — not wildlife close-ups, people, or unrelated scenery
  • Do not upload photos that contain personally identifiable information (faces, license plates)
  • No graphic, violent, or sexually explicit imagery

5. Condition Reports

Condition reports are time-sensitive posts about current site or road conditions. They should be:

  • Accurate and based on very recent firsthand observation
  • Specific (e.g., “access road has a 12-inch washout at mile marker 3” rather than “road is bad”)
  • Promptly marked resolved if conditions have improved

Do not use condition reports to post general opinions or reviews.

6. No Spam or Commercial Content

CampScout is not an advertising platform. Do not post:

  • Promotional content for campgrounds, tour operators, or any commercial service
  • Affiliate links or referral codes
  • Duplicate or near-duplicate reviews across multiple sites
  • Content generated by automated tools or AI on your behalf

7. Reporting Violations

If you see content that violates these guidelines, use the report button on the review or contact us at hello@campscout.org. We review all reports and take action where warranted, but we cannot guarantee a specific response time or outcome.

8. Enforcement

Violations of these guidelines may result in content removal, a warning, temporary suspension, or permanent account termination depending on severity and history. We reserve the right to make these decisions at our sole discretion.

These guidelines supplement our Terms of Service, which governs all use of CampScout.
